Aqua-Pure Whole House Scale Inhibition Water System for Hot Water Appliances

The 3M Aqua-Pure AP430SS whole house scale inhibition inline water system is designed to help reduce scale build-up and corrosion, thereby extending the life of hot water-using appliances such as water heaters (standard gas, standard electric and tankless), boilers, clothes washers and dishwashing machines, as well as plumbing fixtures like faucets, pipes, and shower heads. This system provides a flow of up to 10 gallons per minute (37.9 liters per minute) when installed with 3/4" NPT inlet/outlet connections.

Scale is the result of calcium and magnesium mineral deposits that often form when hard water is heated. Over time, scale build-up can significantly shorten the life of any water-using appliance. Additionally, scale buildup inside pipes causes a loss of water pressure as the interior gets smaller and smaller.

The AP430SS contains polyphosphates to bind calcium and magnesium hardness minerals, helping to prevent them from precipitating out and building up on metallic surfaces. Polyphosphates also help reduce corrosion by forming a thin protective layer on the metal surface. This scale inhibition system is tested by NSF International to NSF/ANSI Std. 42 for material and structural requirements.

The single vessel/cartridge design of the AP430SS makes the 3M Aqua-Pure AP431 Water Filter Cartridge change-out easy for both professionals and end users. The cartridge should be changed every 6 months or sooner if a noticeable reduction in water flow rate is observed.

The AP430SS is to be installed on the cold water supply line of the water heater or at the point-of-entry of water into the home. Tools and parts required (not included) are: one 3/4" stop and waste valve (compression type), PTFE tape, two 3/4" male x 3/4" street adapters, one 3/4" compression gate valve, and a pipe cutter. Careful measurement of the cold water supply line pipe is necessary to ensure proper connection sizing and fittings.

This filter system has two 3/4" NPT female connections, but additional adapter fittings (not included) may be required to match your existing piping. The AP430SS can be adapted to various pipe sizes by using a reducing adapter (not included) on either end of the 3/4" NPT head. Adapter fittings (not included) can be sweated, threaded, or quick-connected to adapt to different pipe types like copper, galvanized pipe or PEX tubing.

By inhibiting the build-up of hardness minerals onto metallic surfaces, the 3M Aqua-Pure AP430SS helps maintain the efficiency of water-using appliances, such as water heaters. Additionally, the minute concentrations of polyphosphates help reduce scale build-up and corrosion. The system's stainless steel head and flow rate of 6 gallons per minute further enhance its functionality.
